Immaculate (2024) – Nuns, Nightmares, and Unholy Secrets

Let me just start by saying: Sydney Sweeney as a nun? Wild. Immaculate is a horror movie that goes places you wouldn’t expect, it starts slow and kind of mysterious but gets really intense by the end. The film follows Cecilia, an American nun who joins a mysterious Italian convent and starts experiencing terrifying visions and uncovering secrets that are anything but divine.

It plays with a lot of classic horror tropes (creepy religious symbols, eerie silence, etc.), but it’s got a slick, modern vibe. The cinematography is gorgeous, lots of dark corridors lit by flickering candles, and Sweeney gives a pretty committed performance. Her character’s journey from innocent faith to panicked rebellion is genuinely fascinating.

I wouldn’t say it’s perfect, the pacing is a bit uneven in the middle and there seems to be an excessive amount of gore added in, but if you can get past that, the plot is worth giving this film a shot. It's a mix of The Nun and Rosemary’s Baby, with its own fresh energy.

If religious horror is your thing, you should definitely watch it at your earliest convenience. Also, here’s the trailer in case you want to feel it out before diving in!
